What to do in Siem Reap – 3 Days in Cambodian Temple Kingdom

We arrived in Cambodia on Wednesday 22 of April and chilled at the hotel after check-in. Yet again we did book a great place to stay and IMHO it was the best hotel I have stayed in so far. When booking ensure you go through TopCashback (if you sign up through my link you will get FREE £5)to get 10-12% off the final price in the form of a cashback.

The Cambana d’Angkor Suites hotel staff welcomed us with cold towels and a cold drink which was great as despite the fact we arrived at the hotel around 8 pm it was still very hot and humid…The hotel manager was very kind to give us a map and explain what and when best to see.

Day 1 – 23/04 Sunday

We did see the temples further away from the city. We were taken by our tuk-tuk driver to the ticket office where we bought a three-day pass for $62, quite pricey, however, it made the most sense to use since we wanted to do at least a 2-day temple run and buying 2 separate day passes was more expensive as one day pass cost $37…

Then we set off to all the temples located further away from Siem Reap:

  • Banteay Srei – the female pink stone temple – is truly amazing

  • East Mebon
  • Ta Som
  • Preah Khan
  • Neak Pean
  • Pre Rup

It was a truly amazing day despite the overwhelming heat…

Day 2 – 24/04 Monday

Today we set off to see

  • Angkor Wat
  • Bayon
  • Ta Prohm

Yet again the heat was real despite setting off at 8 am..

But the sites we visited were truly amazing. I really loved Bayon and the monkeys on our way there as well as Tomb Raider temple 🙂 Later having arrived at the hotel and rested a bit we set off to see Siem Reap city centre and discovered a very nice restaurant. The owner – an Australian man set it up to help Cambodian people & he shares 10% of the income with his staff so they can go and set up their own businesses:-) how cool is that? Ah, not only that good cause is great there but the food was truly delicious, and so were the drinks. I highly recommend a drink called bansai – very refreshing after a crazy hot day!

Day 3 – 25/04 Tuesday

Today we chilled in our amazing hotel swimming loads in the swimming pool to cool down a bit..Then we rented out the bicycles and went out to Phnom Krom which is a 140 m high hill close to Siem Reap. There is a temple located on the top which derived its name from the hill, “Prasat Phnom Krom” (Prasat means “temple”). We saw a sunset there.

Day 4 – 26/04 Friday  – We left Siem Reap to start our relaxing honeymoon week in Koh Samui 🙂
