Why a Vacuum Rucksack is a Travel Essential
Because you can maximize luggage space with a simple yet small vacuum rucksack. These innovative bags compress clothes and gear into a fraction of their size. It’s a game-changer for staying organized and mobile during transfers.
I was over the moon with my newest bag purchase as the vacuum bag is not only airtight after vacuuming with a small pump that attaches to 1 small valve but has many clever compartments and allows for neat packing and in adherence to most airlines dimension requirements. I highly recommend it as its true-life saver when we want to take more yet don’t want to buy checked-in luggage. The bag itself is light as well and ours weights 1.5kgs. There are many of them available on Amazon but also elsewhere.

I then ensured I also got a metal hat clip that allowed me to pin my hat to one of the bag zippers, so that way I was able to carry my hat in a seamless way.
A wide-brimmed hat is a must-have for any trip to Asia, where the sun can be relentless. Not only does it shield your face and neck from harmful UV rays, but it’s also a stylish accessory that elevates your travel photos.
Quality SPF – 100ml
When talking about sun a quality SPF is non-negotiable. I rely on a company called Sun Tribe.

Why?
Simply because I am conscious of protecting both the environment and myself!
Sun Tribe have a great ethos, they produce SPFs that are safe for our skin – so without oxybenzone and any other similarly harmful ingredients. Their SPFs are also reef friendly, so even when we go into sea/ocean they won’t affect the marine life as many others will, so to conclude the are:
- 100% free from synthetic chemicals, preservatives and perfumes
- Exclusively Non-Nano Mineral UV-filters
- Certified UVA & UVB protection
- Reef safe
- water-resistant
- 100 ml tubes easy to take in a hand baggage
I noticed that code ‘sun 10%’ usually works and offers 10% off the regular price. My fav products form Sun Tribe are 30 SPF either for kids or adults as well as the SPF 50, however this one leaves a white film on ones body, so if that is a problem for you the tinted or untinted 30 SPF may be better, it just must be applied more often to protect as well as 50 SPF would…
Universal Charger with USB Ports
A compact universal charger is a lifesaver when navigating Asia’s diverse plug types (think Type A, C, or G). As in Asia we use the same plug as in the UK you dont have to worry about taking any adapters.
Look for one with multiple USB ports to charge your phone, camera, and earbuds simultaneously. It’s lightweight, eliminates the need for bulky adapters, and ensures your devices stay powered during day trips.
Sarong
A sarong is one of the best compact and multipurpose travel essentials for any trip including to Asia, doubling as a towel or scarf.
The humble sarong is the ultimate multipurpose travel item. This lightweight fabric can be a beach cover-up, a towel, a scarf for modesty in temples, or even a makeshift picnic blanket. Roll it up—it takes up next to no space—and choose a quick-dry material for humid climates. It’s a budget-friendly, versatile gem for any travel itinerary.
Compact Cosmetics Kit
Skip the bulky makeup bag and opt for a compact cosmetics kit. Include multitasking products like a tinted moisturizer with SPF, a lip-and-cheek tint, and a mini mascara. These save space while keeping you fresh for Instagram-worthy shots at Singapore’s skyline or Maya beach in Thailand ;-). I personally love gruum’s bars for washing face, body ans hair. These are kind to you as well as the world we share. <3
I also love my Curaprox compact dental set. At home when not traveling or when no need to go light I am addicted to my ORAL-B iO 9 but when space is limited, I opt for compact Curaprox dental set. Its a space saver!
(in-flight) Sleeping Aid
When on a long-haul flight, I like to have some comfort when trying to sleep. For that reason I use earplugs, sleeping mask and when trying to fight a jetlag I turn to an app called Time shifter. I also use a website called Sleepopolis.
These compact and multipurpose travel essentials for our Asia trip kept us prepared and light on our feet.
Final Packing Tips
For a two-week trip, prioritize lightweight fabrics (think breathable cotton or moisture-wicking blends) and versatile shoes like foldable flats or sandals.
Asia’s climates vary—humid jungles, cool highlands, or rainy seasons—so check your destinations and pack accordingly.
A small first-aid kit with band aids and painkillers is also handy. I also take iodine as its antibacterial and antiseptic, so a great disinfectant case of any cuts or wounds.
With these compact, multipurpose essentials—a hat, SPF 50-30, charger, sarong, vacuum rucksack, and cosmetics—you’ll be ready for anything Asia throws your way. Travel light, stay prepared, and enjoy your trip!
