Tesco Clubcard Boost Changes – 11 June 2018

Tesco Clubcard Rewards Scheme Changes
I shop at Tesco & have a Tesco Clubcard – and always encourage Tesco shoppers to get theirs too. For many years I have been spending my Clubcard points using their Boost scheme, which meant that I was able to get at least 4 times as much for my points when exchanging them for some entertainment or eating out deals. Sadly on my second wedding anniversary – 11/06/2018 Tesco decided to change the reward scheme.

Tesco Clubcard Boost Changes January 2018

How to save money with Tesco Clubcard

How to use Tesco Clubcard points

Once you have collected certain amount of points you will be sent a paper voucher the very same as an electronic voucher seen in your Tesco Clubcard account.

The worst way of spending your Tesco Clubcard point is when redeeming the Clubcard vouchers at the Tesco till. Why? As 100 points are worth £1, whereas as mentioned above if you decide to boost your points you will get 4x as much so ultimately £4 as opposed to £1 if we compare like for like.. The boost offers a nice increase in value. Since today – 15/01 Tesco is no longer offering variable boost (no more double or quadruple boosts) but only triple boosts for most of the deals.

What does it mean for us? Well even though as my favourite eating out deals (e.g. Prezzo & Pizza Express) as not as valuable as they used to be overall we get bigger savings across the board.

Tesco Club Card Changes Example

Value CUT from 4x to 3x – Hampton Court Palace, Lightwater Valley, London Zoo, Paradise Wildlife Park, Cafe Rouge,Pizza Express, Prezzo, Shakespeare’s Globe, Tower of London

Value REMAINS THE SAME at 3x – Magazine subscriptions, Eurotunnel, Goldsmiths, Hotels.com, cinema and train tickets

Value RISING from 2x to 3x – APH Airport Parking, Denby Online Shop, Evans Cycles, Megabus, RedSpottedHanky

4 Best Tesco Clubcard Boost Deals worth getting

    • Train tickets – Every 50p gives you £1.50 in return on Red Spotted Hanky
If you look in advance and check on Megabus page on certain routes you will be able to get cheap train tickets too, you can of course boost the spend and get £3 for every £1 spent. Certain Railcards are being sold half price too – from £30 to £15.
    • Days Out – Many entertainment deals had boost slashed from 4x to 3x which is still good value. Boost for theme park admissions have stayed the same so you will manage to get an adult Thorpe Park ticket for £12.50 & Alton Towers tickets for £13 (almost 75% off the door price). You can also get triple points when purchasing English Heritage membership. Check out which one can take your fancy here.
    • Magazine subscriptions – Majority magazines subscriptions are the cheapest when bought using Club Card points e.g Good Housekeeping magazine :
      Cover price £4.4
      Annual price £52.8
iSubscribe price for annual subscription £34.
Tesco Club Card points required 15,00 = £15  –> Swap your Club Card Points for magazine subscription
    • Cinema tickets – I know some of my friends are exchanging the Club Card points for cinema tickets. Cineworld ticket cost £4.50 in points and so does an Odeon ticket (top London locations are of course excluded). My preferred way to save on the cinema is when utilising the Free Cinema tickets from Lloyds Club Account (every year you get 6 free Cineworld tickets valid for a year) therefore I don’t feel that Club Card cinema tickets boost is that amazing.

Deals which aren’t deals anymore

Looks like my favourite deals on eating out are no longer as good as they used to be. If the Clubcard points boost is only 3x as high unlike previously 4x I suggest you google certain restaurants deals/vouchers to get restaurant vouchers higher than the booster Tesco Clubcard vouchers. You can also get Tastecard or Gourmet Society.

Bonus Info

If you pay at Tesco with Pay+. Collect 1 extra Clubcard point for every £4 you spend in Tesco until 31 December 2018. That way you can get more points before 11/06 and boost your vouchers before the new reward scheme changes take place.
